The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has announced that all the licenses issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources for gold trading have been revoked.
He said anybody who is using the old license issued by PMMC to engage in Gold trade is committing a crime.
According to him, the new GoldBod licenses regime has taken full effect and it is for only a Ghanaian who has gone through their approved processes.
“The new GoldBod licenses regime has taken full effect and that effective immediately, only a Ghanaian who has gone through the lay down due processes and has been issued a license by the Ghana GoldBod can legally engage in Gold trading in Ghana. What it means is that if you are not licensed by the Ghana GoldBod, you are committing a crime if you gold or you engage in any form of God trade,” Sammy Gyamfi made this announcement at a press conference in Accra on Monday, June 30.
“All the previous licenses that various traders involved in Gold trade had from the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources have all been revoked by the Ghana Gold Bod Act and we will no longer continue to respect those licenses.” He said.
He urged the various stakeholders involved in Gold Trading to do the needful to avoid problems.
“Whereas we allow various stakeholders to buy gold, to trade gold, with other previous PMMC licenses or licenses to deal in gold issued by the Minister responsible for mines, the same is not the case as we speak today, that legal regime has come to an end and so even though we know that ignorance of the law is no excuse, we want to, for the last time, use your esteem platform to communicate to all our stakeholders across the country that they should do the needful”
