Popular Ghanaian YouTuber, Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon, known as Wode Maya, has sparked another reaction on social media with regards to his previous comment on Asantes.
According to him, no Asante blogger or vlogger has showcased the rich Asante culture and the beauty of Kumasi more than him despite his recent comment.
He also claimed that people from the Asante who are criticizing him all wish to be like him.
The renowed YouTuber also denied claims that he has insulted the Asantes.
“I rarely brag, but today I have to! No Asante blogger or vlogger has showcased the rich Asante culture and the beauty of Kumasi more than Wode Maya!” He posted on his X
“Let’s be real!deep down, you all wish to be like Wode Maya.siaaaaaasem! When did I insult Asantes?” Part of the post read.
His comment was in response to popular Broadcast Journalist, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah who felt Wode Maya’s recent comment was unfolded.
Wode Maya as part of his content on Africa culture narrated how the Asantes were involved in slave trade.
A social media – X user The Asante Nation which is affiliated to the Manhyia Palace also reacted to Wode Maya claims.
“Let’s stop pretending. Wodemaya crossed a line, and no amount of historical sugarcoating will change that.” They posted.
“Let’s talk history? Fine. Let’s talk all of it. Asantes were not the only tribe that participated in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Fantes, Ahantas, Asantes, Akyems, Akwamu, Denkyira, Bono, Ewes, Ga, Gonja, Dagomba etc all took part. Asantes, like all powerful empires of their time, participated in slavery. No one is denying that. But to single out the Asante Kingdom, a nation built on gold, resistance, military genius, and cultural sophistication, as some kind of poster child for slave trading is not history. It’s selective attack.” The Asante Nation explained
