As part of the government’s efforts to promote educational equity, it will soon launch the ‘No Fees Stress Policy’, a transformative initiative aimed at removing financial obstacles for first-year students entering public tertiary institutions
The policy, spearheaded by the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) under the leadership of Dr. Saajida Shiraz, will be officially unveiled on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the SDA College of Education, Asokore – Koforidua, at 2:00 PM prompt. The launch will be graced by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and other high-profile dignitaries, signaling a major shift in the country’s approach to funding higher education.
During the 58th Special Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi on Saturday, June 28, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, described the policy as a transformative initiative that significantly improves access and promotes fairness in Ghana’s tertiary education system.
“The No Fees Stress policy is one of the models that expands access to quality education. Through this policy, first-year students in public institutions will be exempted from paying academic-related fees.” She stated.
Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang further disclosed that as of mid-June, almost 130,000 students had visited the dedicated No-Fee-Stress portal, with over 100,000 applications already completed—a sign of the policy’s widespread impact and interest.
The No Fees Stress initiative is part of a broader government effort to support vulnerable and disadvantaged students, ensuring that no qualified Ghanaian is denied a tertiary education due to financial hardship.
