Chief Imam chastises Mahama for his double standards

The National Chief Imam for Shia, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmed Kamaldeen has chastised President John Dramani Mahama for his double standards during the Muslim session of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.

According to him, President Mahama and the NDC advocated for a cap in the appointment of the Supreme Court Justices prior to the 2024 elections but after winning the elections the NDC government is practicing what they preached against.

He said the Judiciary is losing public trust and confidence due to political interference.

“Our judiciary is in bad shape because of the manipulation of the political parties. Barely a year ago, the NDC was advocating for a cap in the appointment of the Supreme Court Justices, only for our president to appoint seven of them just recently. As a result, many people don’t have any confidence in the Judiciary because of manipulation of political parties.” He lamented.

Sheikh Abubakar prayed that Allah should change the attitude of the political parties to ensure that the Judiciary is independent.

“We therefore ask Allah to change the attitude of first, the executives, our political parties to leave the Judiciary alone. They must be Independent, they must be allowed to do their work without interference from executives and political parties.” He prayed.

“The seven Judges that were appointed, those in Parliament who five years ago, promoted them from High Court to Appeal court are now saying they don’t recognize them. This is politics, we can’t afford to politicize our Judiciary, that is the only place that when we are chased out we can run to. So we ask Allah for true independence for our Judiciary, we ask Allah to protect them and help them to do justice.”
