Reactions as UPSA students allegedly sent home for ‘indecent dressing’

University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) decision to allegedly send several students home by the University task force over indecent dressing has sparked reactions on social media.

The University in a Memo said “With effect from July 1, 2025, a task force will be positioned at strategic locations on campus to enforce the dress code and bring sanity to campus. Note, that you will not be allowed into lecture halls with unkempt hair, shorts, bathroom, slippers, track suits, anklets, nose rings, etc, to mention a few.”

In a video that has gone viral, the task force was seen dragging some students from lecture halls for failing to comply with the University’s dress code directives.

This has sparked reactions on social media as some believe the university decision is unaccepted.

Below are some of the reactions:

Arhin Asamoah, MHA @arhin10v “It’s 2025, and this is happening on a university campus, particularly involving a female student. The girl’s family should ensure that this man never works in a school again, and they should sue him and bankrupt his family along with the school.”

Omo Ghana @GentlemanBright “This is rubbish and the school should be sued! It doesn’t make sense at all! These are adults! They have the right to dress the way they want(freedom of expression), as long as they’re not naked. Why are they being harassed and embarrassed? That man is assaulting that girl!”

“Mempeasem Goliath @JojoAnsong “Ah what would warrant a student to be treated in this matter??? What is her offence???? This is so disgusting to see. This behaviour shouldn’t be condoned in any way.”

Enyonam Nancy @morhu_nancy “Dragging them isn’t right and acceptable in my opinion. Also, dear colleague students it won’t kill you to dress professionally and appropriately when reading a professional program. Let’s be conscious and act as the tertiary students we are, thank you!”

E.TA @iamErnestAttram “After reading through the upsa university 2018 student handbook. Specifically 1.29 Dress code and 1.32.9 handling dress code violations I see the per the video shared, the process was not followed thru. It is in the university utmost interest to call their disciplinary…”

KTB @KTB37033674 “What??? There is selective inquisition in a democratic country? So where do we draw the line? What are the school authorities doing about this? And where are the interest groups? This guy shd be arrested for assault.”
