A member of the United States of America Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senate Jmaes E Risch has warned Ghana to focus on honoring its financial obligations to the U.S companies and taxpayers.
Senate James Risch said the U.S cannot keep subsidizing Ghana while it continues paying far larger debts to China and America.
“Instead of a trip to D.C., Ghana’s foreign minister should focus on honoring his government’s commitments to repay U.S. companies and the American taxpayers. We cannot keep subsidizing Ghana while it continues paying far larger debts to China.” He warned.
His comment follows Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s recent visit to the U.S.
According to Okudzeto, he had great discussions on a wide range of Ghana-US bilateral cooperation.
“I was warmly hosted at the US State Department earlier today by Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Allison M. Hooker and Ambassador Troy Damian Fitrell of the Bureau for African Affairs. We had great discussions on a wide range of Ghana-US bilateral cooperation.” Okudzeto announced.
His visit follows the U.S government decision to impose a travel ban on some countries including Ghana.
The sector Minister who also serves as a Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency in the Volta Region indicated that the NDC government is taking strategic steps in ensuring that Ghana is not affected by the much talked about impending US visa ban.
“President Mahama’s government is determined to take all necessary and strategic steps consistent with our national interest in ensuring that Ghana is not affected by the much talked about impending US visa ban. We expect a positive outcome for Ghana and the strengthening of Ghana – USA relations.” Ablakwa added.
In his recent meeting with the media, Ablakwa disclosed that over staying and violation of laws constituted the traveling ban.
