Nwoase Traditional Leaders open doors for tourism investment in untouched forest lands

The Sanaahene of Nwoase, Nana Kofi Afena, speaking on behalf of Nana Kofi Drobo and the Nwoase Traditional Council, has extended a warm invitation to both the government and private investors to explore opportunities in transforming the area into a vibrant tourism destination.

Located in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, Nwoase boasts one of Ghana’s last remaining virgin forests, untouched by human activity. According to Nana Kofi Afena, the area’s forests have never experienced tree felling or bushfires, making them a rare and pristine natural reserve.

Nana Kofi Afena disclosed that the people of Nwoase are guided by the spiritual principles of Nana Kwaku Fri, to uphold the protection of nature as a sacred duty.

“We welcome any idea that can help turn this place into a tourism center because all the forests in this area are untouched. No tree has ever been cut down, and there has never been any instance of bushfire in any of our forests.

“Nana Kwaku Fri does not destroy nature but rather protects and preserves it. That is why it is forbidden in Nwoase to destroy the natural environment. If you want to see a forest that has remained undisturbed since creation, then you should visit Nwoase.” He stated.

The traditional area is home to vast forest lands teeming with a variety of tree species, grasses, and wildlife, making it ideal for ecological tourism, scientific research, and the study of silvology and forest ecosystems.

The Sanaahene of Nwoase explained that, beyond its ecological appeal, the community also offers a rich cultural heritage. He said the community celebrates the Odwira festival, observes Adae every forty days, and hosts the grand Apoo festival, a spectacular display of tradition, history, and cultural pride.

“We have vast forest lands with all kinds of trees, grasses, and plants, making it an ideal location for the study of silvology, forest ecosystems, and other scientific research. Our forests are also home to a wide variety of animal species.”

“In terms of festivals, we celebrate Odwira, and every forty days, we observe Adae. The most significant of them all is the Apoo festival, during which our culture and traditions are displayed in their fullest glory.”

With its blend of unspoiled natural beauty and deep-rooted tradition, the people of Nwoase believe the area is well-positioned to become a premier eco-cultural tourism hub in Ghana and are calling on all stakeholders to support its development.
