Ghanaian national George Asiamah who got 4Fs and 3Es in WASSCE could not hide his inspirational story on how he was able to successfully secure Grantham Scholarship to pursue his PhD from Sheffield University in the UK.
George Asiamah was among other candidates who were unsuccessful in their application for a Grantham Centre PhD Scholarship.
After the interview and review of Mr. Asiamah’s application, the management of Grantham Centre PhD Scholarship expressed their satisfaction in how he answered the questions during the interview and how his application was arranged.
A letter from the institution that granted George Asiamah the offer said “Dear George, Many thanks for taking time to talk with us yesterday about your application for a Grantham Centre PhD Scholarship.”
“Dr. Little and I were very impressed by your application and interview, and I’m delighted to say that we would like to offer you a Grantham Scholarship, starting on 1st October 2018 and running for four years.” The letter read.
Adding that “My department colleague Sarah Cooke (copied here) will be in touch on Monday with the formal PhD offer letter, and more detailed information on next steps. We’ll then need to arrange your visa and other paperwork – but you will of course have been through this process before from your timer at QUB.”
Grantham Centre PhD Scholarship therefore requested confirmation from Mr. George Asiamah before they inform the other unsuccessful candidates.
“In the meantime, if you could confirm whether you would like to accept this offer, that would be very helpful, so that we can then inform the other unsuccessful candidates. Many congratulations and we look forward to welcoming you to Sheffield and to working with you! best wishes.”
George Asiamah is now lecturer at the Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
He got Mathematics F, Integrated Science E, Social Studies E, English Language F, Economics F, Geography F, and Government E in his WASSCE.
The story of George Asiamah has inspired many people and encouraged them to push hard and chase their dream even if they fail in the fast attempt.
