Limiting B1/B2 visas from 5 years to 3-month has nothing to do with Foreign Minister – Bridget Otoo

Presidential Staffer Bridget Otoo has responded to those who are blaming the Foreign Affairs Minister, Okudzeto Ablakwa for the US decision to reduce the validity of B1/B2 visas for Ghanaian citizens from a 5-year multiple-entry to a 3-month single-entry.

The new visa restriction affects non-immigrant visas in the new US reciprocity policies.

Following this announcement, some Ghanaians especially the opposition parties have accused the Minister for the new US government visa restrictions. According to them, the Minister’s recent utterances go against Diplomatic dialogue.

Reacting to this, the Media Personality said the implementation of the new restrictions has nothing to do with the Foreign Affairs minister.

She believes it is the opposition who are engaging in such propaganda.

“Earlier this year, The US threatened to issue restrictions on Ghana if our students continued to overstay on their visits, this information was made public by the foreign affairs ministry. It was estimated that 21% of Ghanaian students overstayed their visits which was well.” She said.

“Past the accepted threshold of 15%. The U.S. followed through on its threats and has implemented the restrictions, limiting B-1 visas for non-immigrants from up to 5 years to just 3-months. This has absolutely nothing to do with the Foreign Affairs minister. So please do not fall for the propaganda being peddled by the opposition.” Bridget Otoo stated.
