Election violence: Don’t be excited because your opponents have been beaten – Manasseh Azuri writes

Don’t be excited that it was Ayawaso West Wuogon, and your opponents were beaten. Don’t be excited that it is Ablekuma North and your opponents have been beaten.

Be worried that it makes you and me (Ghanaians) look like animals in the eyes of the world. Human beings are supposed to choose leaders. It happens all over the world. In some lands, you won’t realise that it’s an Election Day or season. They vote and go back to continue with their lives. We are not inferior humans, so we are expected to act like normal humans, the best of humans.

Ours is to go and vote, return home, and allow our representatives and the Electoral Commission to count and tell us who has won.

It is this simple. That’s what humans are supposed to do. We are not animals to go out to beat one another because of an election.

If you gloated over Ayawaso West Wuogon and are now condemning Ablekuma North, that makes you look like an animal. If you condemned Ayawaso West Wuogon and are now rejoicing over the violence of Ablekuma North because you have the upper hand this time, then you’re not better than an animal.

We don’t have to maim and kill one another to elect people to go to parliament.

That’s not what HUMAN BEINGS are expected to do. And we cannot be shouting to the rest of the world to respect and accord us all the dignity of humans when we show them that we are lesser humans.

This is not just about NDC or NPP. It’s about you and me. How that stupidity rubs off on our collective image must concern you.
