I’m Supported More by Nigerians Than Ghanaians – Olivetheboy

Afrobeats singer Joel Ofori Bonsu, popularly known as Olivetheboy, has revealed that the majority of his music streams come from Nigeria even though he is based in Ghana.

In a conversation with entrepreneur and social media influencer Ama Burland, Olivetheboy shared that while Ghana supports him, a significant chunk of his fanbase is Nigerian.

“Most of those who support my songs come from Nigeria, streams, fans, everything. But my country Ghana has also got my back, and I’m very grateful for that.”

He went on to say that he’s unsure why Nigerians connect so strongly with his music, joking that some might even assume he’s Nigerian.

“I don’t know why Nigerians love me so much. Maybe it’s the way I sing they often confuse me for a Nigerian,” he said.

Interestingly, Olivetheboy never planned on being a musician. According to him, he once dreamed of becoming a doctor, but life had other plans.

“One funny thing is that I actually wanted to be a doctor and not a musician. But after some time, I realized I was a good singer, so I ditched that dream and pursued music and I haven’t regretted it.”

He added that although he took a different path from what he envisioned as a child, he’s content with where life has taken him.

“I’m okay with where I am today, doing what I’m passionate about and moving at my own pace. And the fact that it fetches me money makes it even better.”
