Akwatia by-election is not even on our table for discussion – NDC

Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has stated that the party is still mourning the passing of Hon. Yaw Ernest Kumi, the late MP for Akwatia, and has not yet made a decision on whether to contest the vacant seat.

Speaking in an interview with O.B on Asempa FM, Mustapha Gbande said mourning the late MP is the most important thing in the political atmosphere rather than rushing to go to a by-election.

According to him, the decision to contest an election lies within the powers of the Secretary-General in consultation with the National Chairman and the party leader but currently they are not discussing anything related to the vacant seat.

“I am just saying that we are mourning Ernest Yaw Kumi, it is a reasonable thing to do in a political atmosphere. I am not the one to announce by-elections; it is within the authority of the General Secretary in consultation with the National Chairman and the Leader of our party who is the President.” He said.

” So if they decide that we should go for an election we will go. We are not ready for (Akwatia by-election), it is not even on our table for discussion.” Mustapha Gbande stated.

Hon. Yaw Ernest Kumi died on Monday, 7th July, 2024 at the age of 40.
