Meet Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah; Deputy Minister of Health

 

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated the Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, Professor Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah as a Deputy Minister of Health – designate.

Ayensu-Danquah who was born on Wednesday, 10 May 1967  is a Ghanaian gender advocate, humanitarian surgeon.

Mrs. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, MD, MPH, FGCPS, FICS, FACS is the owner and Medical Director of the Sage Medical Centre, East Legon Accra.

She is a Professor of Medicine at the Center for Global Surgery at the University of Utah, United States; and lecturer at the Cape Coast University Medical School.

She also led the Hope Project, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) as its Country Director in Ghana. Professor serves on the Medical Board of California, issued by the Maryland Board of Physicians in May, 2007.

She is the Founder of Healing Hands Organization, an NGO dedicated to providing medical and surgical care to the poor and needy people who have no access to proper healthcare.

The organization also distributes free medical supplies and equipment to clinics and hospitals in rural areas.

Prof. Ayensu Danquah studied at Johns Hopkins University for herMasters in Public Health in May, 2001. She also has Doctorate in Surgery (PHD) from Providence Hospital in April, 2006.

Professor obtained her Surgical Sub-Specialty certificate from University of California, San Diego in May, 2008.

Prof. Ayensu-Danquah was elected Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in December, 2016; and the Ghana Medical and Dental Council in February, 2012.

In the United States, she was granted a Fellow of the Maryland Board of Physicians in September, 2010; and the American Board of Surgeons in January, 2010.

Prof. Ayensu-Danquah acquired her Humanitarian Assistance certificate from Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health in April, 2001.

Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah is a Gender Advocate, Humanitarian Surgeon, Educationist, Philanthropist, and Politician.

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles in May, 1995; and Degree in Medicine from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in May, 2000.

Prof. is a double board-certified surgeon trained in general surgery, having completed a trauma and burn fellowship and trained in reconstructive surgery too. She is an experienced Executive Medical Director with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and health care.

She is a strong business development professional skilled in Medical Education, Body Contouring, Aesthetics, Medicine, and Laparoscopic Surgery. Available for board memberships.

In addition to these, she holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health in International Health Management and Planning with special certification in humanitarian assistance and disaster management.

In the 2024 General Elections, Ayensu-Danquah contested the Essikado-Ketan constituency against Charles Bissue, the candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP). She secured 26,166 votes (59.58%), narrowly defeating Charles Bissue, who garnered 17,754 votes (40.42%).
