Audio: Students advised to make good use of ICT knowledge to broaden education scope

The Assembly Member for the Agogoso Electoral Area in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, Hon. James Amponsah, popularly known as Teacher Kofi, has advised students to make good use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to expand their knowledge and learning opportunities.

Speaking at the commissioning of a modern state-of-the-art ICT laboratory for Akentansu Basic School near Agogoso, Hon. Amponsah stated that the use of ICT has transformed the world into a global village, making teaching and learning much easier and more effective.

According to him without sufficient knowledge in ICT, it becomes extremely difficult for anyone to participate in the global economy.

“The world has now become a global village to the extent that remote jobs are very common. Today, someone can comfortably stay at home and purchase an item from Accra without any stress.

“It is in light of this that the traditional leaders and people of Akentensu made a conscious effort to establish an ICT centre for the community, so that our children can acquire the necessary ICT skills to succeed in the modern job market.” He said.

He further expressed excitement about the commissioning of the facility, recalling the challenges students faced in the past when ICT was introduced as a subject without the necessary tools for practical learning.

“I am very happy to be part of this evet because I remember that during my school days, we did not have the privilege of accessing the practical aspects of ICT. Yet, we were expected to write the same exams as those who had that advantage, and it was not easy. I am therefore glad that we are gradually eliminating that challenge in our community.”

Hon. James Amponsah commended the former Headmaster, Mr. Takyi Mensah (popularly known as Daway), traditional authorities, and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) for their collective effort and commitment to making the project a reality. He further encouraged them to maintain the facility properly to ensure its sustainability.

In attendance was Hon. Razak Mustapha, Deputy NDC Secretary for the Atwima Mponua Constituency, who represented the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Ibrahim Issahak. He lauded the initiative and urged parents to take their children’s education seriously, describing education as the surest path to success in life.

Hon. Razak Mustapha also presented five computers and a cash donation on behalf of the District Assembly to support the new ICT centre.

He explained the importance of education in national development, describing it as the foundation for every nation’s progress.

We all agree that education is the bedrock of every nation. We are able to do what we do today because of education and the knowledge it brings. With proper education and knowledge, we can improve our living conditions, and the provision of computers and an ICT centre is a step in the right direction toward bridging the gap between us and those in urban areas.” He said.

Hon. Razak Mustapha continued, ”Any leader who prioritizes improving the standard of education for his people is one with great vision, and that is exactly what the NDC government, led by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, is demonstrating.”
