Techiman Traditional Council warns against unauthorized sallah float to prevent conflict

The Techiman Traditional Council has issued a strong warning against the organization of the Hashirawa floating (Techiman Sallah Gangara), citing concerns over potential conflict within the Techiman Zongo community and the town at large.

According to the Techiman Traditional Council, the event organized by Alhaji Hashiru Alhassan lacks official recognition. The Council stated that Alhaji Hashiru Alhassan is not the legitimate Sarikin Zongo (Zongo Chief) of Techiman but a self-proclaimed leader and, therefore, does not have the authority to organize such an event.

The Hashirawa float is expected to take place on March 30, 2025, as part of the Eid celebrations. However, the Techiman Traditional Council has frowned upon the event.

During a meeting with some chiefs of the Techiman settler communities, the Traditional Council emphasized that Alhaji Aweisu Alhassan Sari is the officially recognized Techiman Sarikin Zongo. They warned that allowing the float to take place under the leadership of the self-proclaimed Zongo Chief, Alhaji Hashiru Alhassan, could escalate tensions and disturbances, given the ongoing chieftaincy disputes within the Zongo community.

To maintain peace and order, they have advised the public and residents of Techiman Zongo to refrain from participating in the event.

Authorities and security agencies have been alerted to ensure compliance with the directive and prevent any potential unrest. The Techiman Traditional Council reiterated its commitment to fostering unity and maintaining stability in the community.

Residents of Techiman, especially those in Techiman Zongo, have been urged to celebrate Eid peacefully and respect the existing structures that uphold law and order in the community.
