National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North and Member of Public Accounts Committee of Parliament, Eric Edem Agbana has provided facts surrounding the alleged missing ECG containers at Tema Port.
An investigative report on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has revealed that out of 2,491 uncleared containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) only 1,134 were found and 1,347 are missing.
In a post on X, Edem Agbana stated that “During the transition period, the outgoing NPP administration claimed that approximately 3,000 ECG containers were stuck at Tema Harbour due to clearance issues.”
“However, after we took office, an official visit to the harbour by the Minister of Energy revealed a different figure of 2,500 containers accumulating a shocking demurrage cost of GHS 1.5 billion. NOTE: The Minister never said he personally counted 2500, he said 2500 was presented as the figure at the ports.” His post said.
Adding that “This glaring discrepancy of 500 unaccounted for containers raised serious concerns, prompting the Minister to set up an investigative committee to verify the true status of the containers. The committee’s findings were damning, revealing that over 1,300 containers were missing—exposing the blatant falsehoods peddled by the previous administration in both their handing over notes, and also the figure presented to the minister on his site visit.”
Eden continued “Yet, in a desperate attempt to twist the facts, NPP foot soldiers and apparatchiks have somehow convinced themselves that these containers went missing under the NDC government. No logic, no matter how warped, can justify such a ridiculous claim. The investigations will proceed, and when the truth is finally laid bare, we will see who will be left laughing at the wrong side of their mouths.”
“The gullible ones can continue sharing the ‘flying’ container jokes.. they will soon discover they are mocking themselves.” He concluded.
