The Consul General at the United States Embassy in Ghana, Mr Elliot Fertik, has warned Ghanaians against relying on visa agents or consultants for visas to travel to the United States.
According to him, visa agents who claim that they have connections to make the application easy are lying. He said it is not guaranteed that visa agents can easily secure a visa for anyone and therefore, there is no need to pay money to those people.
“I will say in general that the visa application process is something you can do by yourself. Visa agents claim they have some sort of influence on the process and they demand thousands of dollars and say they can guarantee you the visa because they know someone inside. Let me be clear, they are lying; they are ripping you off.” He gave this advice in an interview with Joy FM monitored by Elvisanokyenews.net.
Mr Elliot Fertik stated that anybody who wants to travel to the U.S should go to their website for assistance to apply and go through the necessary interviews.
“Anyone who wants a visa can do it on our website, and there are also, on the website, phone numbers and email addresses that you can use when you run into difficulties.” He said.
According to him, they have received a number of complaints that people have paid a lot of money but they didn’t get visas.
“And I can not tell you the number of stories and complaints that come to us that people have paid thousands of dollars but they have been denied their visa applications. It is because they did not go through legitimate processes and interviews. Every interview depends on the visa applications and documents you submitted. Your success depends on what you say,” The Consul General added.
