The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly denied allegations that he is attempting to interfere with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) internal processes regarding its upcoming National Delegates Conference.
In a statement dated July 14, 2025, the former president’s office described as “completely false” reports published by Otecfmghana and Ghanaweb, which claimed that he was working behind the scenes to overturn the party’s decision on early primaries and postpone the scheduled July 19 conference.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state emphatically that these reports are completely false,” the statement read.
According to the release, President Akufo-Addo has been out of the country for some time and has neither petitioned the party nor communicated any intention to disrupt its electoral timetable.
“President Akufo-Addo… has not made any such requests on the party either by a petition or any other means, and he does not have any such intentions,” the statement emphasized.
The office further pointed out that the motives behind the publications appear to be driven by personal or factional agendas rather than a genuine interest in the success of the NPP.
“Clearly, those behind these publications have an agenda of their own, which has nothing to do with improving the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party,” it concluded.
