The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has once again raised concern over delay in completion of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Teaching Hospital.
The KNUST Teacher Hospital has been stalled for over 18 years despite promises from successive governments.
According to the Asantehene, the 125-million-dollar medical center will complement the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and in the training of medical and allied health students of KNUST when completed.
Speaking at the final session of the 58th Special Congregation of the KNUST, the Asantehene appealed to the government to prioritise the Teaching Hospital to ensure its completion.
He said the medical center has seen tremendous progress but there are a lot to be done for the Hospital to function.
Adding that the completion of the Hospital is his passion and therefore the government should consider continuing the Hospital.
“Madam Vice President, normally I choose time like this to talk about issue at the University and today I will talk about my Teaching Hospital. My next teaching hospital is still not finished even though there has been tremendous progress. I am passionate about this project because of the peculiar purpose it is meant to serve when finished. It will complement the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and in the training of medical and allied health students of KNUST,” Asantehene said.
“So Madam Vice President please push the President to prioritise this essential project and speed up to complete it.” He appealed.
For her part, Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang assured the Asantehene that the government will take the necessary action to ensure the Hospital is completed.
According to her, the Hospital is very important and for that matter the government will do everything possible to ensure its completion.
