His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, is set to meet with the Kusang Traditional Council on Monday, June 30, 2025 in a renewed effort to bring lasting peace to Bawku
The meeting was made known to the public a press release issued from the Manhyia Palace dated Sunday, 29th June, 2025.
According to the release, the high-level engagement forms part of broader consultations aimed at finding enduring solutions to the protracted conflict in Bawku, which has claimed lives, displaced families, and disrupted economic and social life in the area.
“Asantehene requests all stakeholders to cooperate for us to find a lasting peace in Bawku,” the statement read.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, revered for his wisdom and neutrality in mediating national and traditional disputes, is widely seen as a unifying figure whose interventions often bear significant weight. His planned meeting with the Kusang Traditional Council reflects the strategic importance of traditional authorities in the peacebuilding process.
The Manhyia Palace has not disclosed further details about the agenda, but sources close to the Palace indicate that the Asantehene will seek to listen to the concerns of the Kusang leadership and encourage inclusive dialogue with all relevant parties.
He has resumed stalled negotiations and emphasised the need for long-term peace in Bawku.
The Bawku conflict, rooted in chieftaincy and ethnic tensions, has spanned decades despite several government-led attempts to resolve it. Traditional leaders, security agencies, and civil society groups have all called for sustained dialogue, trust-building, and commitment from all factions.
