Audio: Farmers at Yard community call for Otumfuo’s intervention as illegal miners destroy their farms

Some group of farmers at Yard, a farming community in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of Ashanti region are calling on government and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the King of Ashanti Kingdom to intervene in their situation as Galamsey operators has destroyed their cocoa farms.

In an interview with the media, one farmer who’s called Mr. Awuni explained that, the Galamsey operators came with the authority of Nana Amoapem Brenya I, chief of Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality of Ashanti as he is charge of the land in question and also had an agreement with the farmers to compensate them afterwards but not has showed up after destroying their farms.

He mentioned 4 acre land of cocoa farm has been destroyed completely without any benefits to the farmers at this his old age as he has become hopeless in life.

He called on government, Otumfuo Osei Tutu and other authorities to come their aid.
