Audio: Hansua K. Twi M/A School elevated to Model School status

Hansua K. Twi M/A School in the Techiman South Municipal Assembly has been officially elevated to a Model School status by the Ghana Education Service (GES). The school becomes the first out of seventeen selected public schools under the GES pilot program to attain this distinguished status in the Techiman Metropolis of the Bono East Region.

The school, which was initiated by the Hansua community under the visionary leadership of Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour II, the Chief of Hansua and Baamuhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, has grown into one of the most modernized basic schools in the municipality.

Speaking in an interview with the media during a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting, Madam Comfort Osei, Chairperson of the School Management Committee (SMC) of the now officially recognized Hansua K. Twi Model Schools, disclosed that the elevation is a recognition of the school’s outstanding academic strides and infrastructural improvements in recent years.

According to her, in 2023, one of the school’s learners proudly represented the Bono East Region in a national reading competition and emerged as the winner, a clear testament to the school’s rising academic excellence.

However, she noted that although the school has benefited greatly from Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour, especially in terms of infrastructure, it still requires significant improvements in infrastructure, logistics, human resources, and academic support to sustain its new status.

“In the last two years, one of our learners represented Bono East in a reading competition and emerged as the winner. Looking at the current status of the JHS, I believe the recognition is well deserved. The development of Hansua K. Twi is of great importance to the Chief of Hansua, who is also the Baamuhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour.

“Most of the facilities that make us the most modernized basic school in the municipality were built by Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour. However, we appeal to Nananom and other stakeholders to support us in constructing additional classroom blocks for the school.” She stated

Mr. Obed Anane Frimpong, Head Teacher of the Primary Department, on his part revealed that the school went through stringent processes and scrutiny by the Ghana Education Service before attaining model status. He therefore called on parents to support the authorities in implementing the decisions agreed upon at the PTA meeting, in order to make the teachers’ hard work and excellent performance truly impactful.

“We have engaged with many stakeholders to discuss how best we can support the school in maintaining its new status and how to educate parents on their role in sustaining and elevating the school to even greater heights.” He said.
