Black Queens hailed in Parliament after historic semi-final qualification

The Member of Parliament for Ashaiman and Chairperson of Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports, Ernest Henry Norgbey, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Black Queens of Ghana for securing a spot in the semi-finals of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Addressing the House on Monday, July 21, 2025, ahead of the Black Queens’ highly anticipated semi-final clash against host nation Morocco, Mr. Norgbey praised the team’s resilience, determination, and exemplary performance in the tournament so far.

“I arise today in my capacity as the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee of the Parliament of Ghana to extend heartfelt congratulations to our national women’s football team, the illustrious Black Queens of Ghana, for their outstanding and hard-fought victory over a well-determined Algerian women’s national team in the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, far away in Morocco.” He said

With the victory over Algeria, Ghana’s senior women’s team has booked a place in the last four of the competition and is set to face Morocco on Tuesday, July 22.

The Legislature noted that the Black Queens’ progress was not just a sporting triumph, but a powerful symbol of national pride and unity.

Ernest Henry Norgbey further lauded the players for representing Ghana with dignity both on and off the field, adding that their journey has been a source of inspiration for the youth, especially young women aspiring to excel in sports.

“With this triumph, the team has successfully advanced to the semi-final stage of the competition, where they will take on the host nation, Morocco, on Tuesday, the 22nd of July 2025—which is tomorrow.

“Mr. Speaker, this achievement is not just a sporting milestone. It is a celebration of Ghanaian resilience, unity, and excellence. The Black Queens have consistently demonstrated commendable resilience, focus, and commitment throughout the tournament.

“They have indeed represented our nation with dignity and strength on and off the field. At a time when our younger generation seeks inspiration and leadership, the Black Queens have stood tall as an embodiment of what can be accomplished through hard work, teamwork, and belief in oneself.” He stated

According to him, the the team’s success was a clear signal that the future of Ghanaian sports, particularly women’s football, is bright. He urged all Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Queens as they continue their quest for continental glory

“The team’s success is a powerful reminder that the future of Ghanaian sport is bright and that our women athletes continue to make us proud on the global stage.”
