Agric input company, Callighana Limited, has donated items and cash valued at fifty thousand Ghana cedis (GH¢50,000) to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to support the celebration of the 41st National Farmers’ Day.
The donation, which includes 10 mix blowers worth GH¢30,000 and a cash cheque of GH¢20,000, is part of the company’s annual commitment to honour Ghanaian farmers for their contribution to national food security and economic growth.
Callighana, a subsidiary of the global group UPL, is a major importer and distributor of agrochemical products, spraying machines and drip irrigation systems. The company has over two decades of experience in Ghana’s agriculture sector and has been a consistent partner of the ministry in supporting agricultural initiatives.
Speaking during the presentation, the Financial Controller of Callighana, Mr. Peter Tetteh, reaffirmed the company’s continuous partnership with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in promoting sustainable farming and rewarding the efforts of farmers.
“Callighana has been in the agric space for more than 20 years, and we have always partnered with the ministry on several programmes. Every year, we support our gallant farmers to ensure a successful Farmers’ Day celebration.”
He explained that beyond the national level, Callighana also extends similar support to various districts across the country to ensure that farmers at the local level are recognised and celebrated for their hard work.
Mr. Tetteh encouraged other agribusinesses and input dealers to emulate the gesture, stressing that agriculture remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
“The future is agric, and our survival as a country depends on it. Supporting farmers and celebrating them serves as motivation for them to produce more for the nation,”
Receiving the donation on behalf of the ministry, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, expressed appreciation to Callighana for its consistent support over the years.
“We thank you very much for supporting the celebration of the 41st National Farmers’ Day. The records show that every year, Callighana contributes to this good cause, and we truly value your effort.”
Hon. Opoku emphasised that such donations directly contribute to the welfare and recognition of farmers who work tirelessly to feed the nation. He assured Callighana of the ministry’s continuous partnership and recognition during this year’s celebration.
The National Farmers’ Day, instituted in 1985, is celebrated annually to acknowledge the vital role of farmers and fishers in Ghana’s socio-economic development. This year’s edition highlights the theme of resilience, innovation and sustainability in agricultural production.
