Don’t Let Anyone Convince You to Move to Accra, It’s Hard Here – TikTokker Akosua Diqson

Popular Ghanaian TikTokker Akosua Diqson has issued a piece of advice to her age-mates: anyone who wants to move, or is being pressured to move to Accra, should stop for now because living in Accra is more expensive than we think.

Akosua Diqson, in an interview with blogger Zionfelix, revealed that she never imagined spending this much when she was living at her parents’ house in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region of Ghana.

“I came to Accra just six months ago and I must confess that living here is very hard, because even rent is 1,000 cedis or more for a single-room self-contained or chamber and hall. You also need to pay for a year or two in advance before you can secure the place. Instead, I could buy land with that yearly rent in my hometown.”

“Don’t let anyone pressure you to move to Accra. If you are still living in your parents’ house, continue enjoying your comfort zone, because here in Accra you will pay bills for everything — including refuse dumping, which was free in my hometown.”

“Even with the prepaid, you have to buy credit to get electricity, and it doesn’t even last for five days, so you always need money to run your life here in Accra, she added.

When asked how much she spends on a normal day in Accra, she responded by saying she spends almost 400–500 cedis, even without including food.

“Here in Accra, transportation is very expensive as well. Just for a short distance, you will pay GHC130 for a Bolt ride. Depending on the day and what I do, I usually spend close to GHC500.”

She revealed that, due to her popular status, she even had to borrow her dad’s old car to use in Accra, and even with that, fuel is eating up all her money.

“At first, I used to take Okada, but people started recognizing me and commenting under my posts that they saw me on a motorcycle, even though I used to cover my face. I had to borrow my dad’s old car because he’s not using it anymore. But even with that, fuel is a big problem for me because fuelling it is not easy at all.”

Akosua concluded by saying, to live in Accra is to stay by plan and without financial help from someone or having a ready job before moving, you can’t survive even for a month.
