DR. Wereko Brobbey urges NPP to stop distractions and allow Mahama Government to govern

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey, has called on his party to stop the constant political distractions and allow the current government under President John Dramani Mahama to focus on delivering its mandate to Ghanaians.

In an interview with the media, Dr. Wereko Brobbey expressed concern over what he described as the NPP’s continued attempts to relitigate the 2024 elections and overshadow the work of the ruling government.

He stated that it would be prudent for the NPP to reflect on their electoral defeat rather than attempting to claim credit for the achievements of the Mahama administration.

“Since the beginning of the year, the opposition has been trying to use every occasion to tell Ghanaians how nobody understood all the good they did, even giving the impression that Ghanaians made a mistake in voting them out because they didn’t understand all the achievements.

“Every opportunity that is available is taken to try and give the impression that the government did better than Ghanaians decided on. Rather than just sitting down for at least a year to reflect on your defeat, allowing government to get on with trying to implement what it has for Ghanaians and then in about a year or two be in a position to start to punch holes if you think that you did far better.” He stated

He stressed that every government deserves the space to implement its policies without constant interference.

Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey also drew attention to the prevailing political dynamics, noting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its independent partners now hold a two-thirds majority in parliament.

“It seems to me that all that is happening in parliament is an attempt to try and relitigate election 2024 and try to give the impression that everything that is being done successfully under Mahama either started from MPP or was due to some things that we are not convinced about.

“The NDC and its independent supporters have two-thirds of parliament so they do not need to waste their time being distracted by an opposition which is just trying to score points.

“Democracy also requires that once we have had an election, we should give room for the government to show us what it can do.”
