Ghana launches “October for Palliative care excellence” to strengthen compassionate health services

The Ghana Palliative Care Association (GPCA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), has launched “October for Palliative Care Excellence in Ghana, 2025,” a nationwide initiative to raise awareness and improve palliative care services.

The programme seeks to enhance the quality of life for patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families through compassionate care, advocacy, and professional excellence.

Held to coincide with the global observance of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day in October, the launch brought together healthcare leaders, policymakers, civil society groups, and patient advocates.

Stakeholders at the event described palliative care as a human right and called for stronger investment in health systems to ensure all Ghanaians, regardless of income or location, have access to appropriate care.

Organisers say “October for Palliative Care Excellence” will serve as both an advocacy platform and a call to action for improved services nationwide.
