The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey, has revealed that the government will officially open the 2025/2026 cocoa season in August this year, with a new and increased farmgate price for cocoa.
He made this assertion while addressing cocoa farmers during a community engagement at Tenponso, a village near Duayaw Nkwanta in the Bechem Farming District, he explained that the new cocoa price is expected to surpass that of neighboring Côte d’Ivoire, positioning Ghana at the top of the cocoa price index in West Africa.
“His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has asked me to inform you that the 2025/2026 cocoa season will officially open in the month of August. Therefore, there is no need for anyone to hoard cocoa.
“At the start of the season, the government will announce an increased price per bag of cocoa. This is part of our commitment to ensuring that cocoa farmers receive better compensation for their produce and are motivated to increase production.” He said.
He assured the farmers that the upcoming price adjustment is part of government efforts to ensure that Ghanaian cocoa farmers receive fair and improved compensation, which would encourage increased production.
“We can all agree that Ghana must boost its cocoa production. Achieving this goal depends on you—the hardworking cocoa farmers. That is why we are meeting with you today.
“We want to hear your ideas on how we can work together to increase cocoa yields. Without cocoa, Ghana has no future. Our economy heavily relies on cocoa production, and we are here to engage with you on the best ways the government can support you.” He stated.
The President of the Brong Ahafo Women Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Central Union (BAWCOF), Madam Martha Addai, welcomed the COCOBOD CEO and his delegation to the region. She further assured Dr. Ransford Anertey Abbey of the full cooperation and support of BAWCOF, as well as that of all other cocoa farmers in the region.
“On behalf of the Brong Ahafo Women Cooperative Cocoa Farmers and Marketing Central Union (BAWCOF), I warmly welcome you to the former Brong Ahafo Region.
“I want to assure you that all cocoa farmers in the region fully support you and the government. We are ready and committed to working together with you to increase the country’s cocoa production.” Mad. Martha Addai said.
