I’ll Take Legal Action If You Steal My Movie” – Salma Mumin Warns

Popular Ghanaian actress Salma Mumin has issued a strong warning to anyone attempting to pirate her films, stating that she will not hesitate to take legal action against them.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM, Salma expressed deep concern over how normalized movie piracy has become, especially in Ghana and across parts of Africa.

She emphasized how disheartening it is for a creative to invest heavily in producing a quality film only for someone else to illegally broadcast or reproduce it within seconds.

“It’s very disappointing when someone steals your work after you’ve invested time, effort, and money to produce something that can put Ghana on the map,” she said.

Her comments come just days after several top Nigerian filmmakers raised alarms about their movies being aired freely on unauthorized TV stations.

The issue caught attention on social media when Tyler Perry’s newly released movie Straw, a global hit was reportedly shown on some television stations in Ghana just days after its release.

Some content creators even made videos reporting the offending stations to the movie’s right owners.

“Recently, a Nigerian filmmaker was ranting about piracy and I added my voice because I understood her frustration. I was frustrated and angry too because I saw my movie being shown in the USA on a TV station without my consent,” Salma revealed.

She stressed that producing a movie requires serious financial commitment and passion, and it’s unacceptable for others to benefit from someone’s hard-earned work without permission.

“From now on, I’m ready to go boot for boot with anyone who tries it again. If I find out someone has stolen my movie, I’ll take the person on. It’s not easy to produce a movie. It takes time, money, and effort to do so,” she warned.
