Ghanaian socialite Efia Odo has pushed back against societal pressure to have children before a certain age.
She asserted that motherhood is a personal choice and should not be influenced by societal expectations.
In a post, Efia Odo born Andrea Owusu challenged the widely held belief that women must have children before turning 30. She described the notion as outdated and harmful, especially to women who are not emotionally or financially ready for motherhood.
“One thing y’all are not going to do is pressure me to give birth,” she wrote.
Efia added that she needs to plan her life well to ensure her children don’t suffer like she did, and therefore won’t give in to societal pressure.
“I’m not bringing a child into a broken home, nor am I bringing a child into the world because society has told me that by my 30s I should’ve given birth.”
She concluded that she’s not interested in such a notion and will do what pleases her, adding that she will only have a child when she feels ready.
“I’m not interested hence will give birth when I feel ready, she added.
Efia Odo rose to fame in Ghana largely through her strong social media presence.
She became even more prominent after playing a key role in the #FixTheCountry protests, which gained her significant public attention.
Before returning to Ghana, she lived and worked in the United States as an assistant nurse.
She currently hosts a podcast called Bants and Rants, which has gone viral and gained widespread attention. The show has featured top celebrities like Shatta Wale and others.
