Former managing director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah has been granted GHS500,000 bail with two sureties.
Mr. Kofi Jumah was arrested on Sunday 29 June, 2025 for allegedly stealing three vehicles belonging to GIHOC Distilleries Company.
His bail came hours after the Ghana Police Service confirmed his arrest and announced that three vehicles have been retrieved from him.
According to the Police, Mr. Kofi Juamh’s arrest came after they received a petition from the company accusing the former MD of stealing three vehicles belonging to the state-owned company.
“Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah was arrested based on a petition that was submitted to us by the GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited. We received the petition that some properties which were the properties of that company have been stolen by the said Maxwell Kofi Jumah.” Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor said at a Press briefing.
She indicated investigations are underway to discover the truth of the story.
“Warrant of arrest was properly secured and that was the basis of which he was arrested and he is in our custody at the CID Headquarters and he is assisting us with the investigations. I must say that as of this afternoon, we have retrieved three (3) vehicles, the said vehicle that was stolen by him has been retrieved.” She added.
Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah’s arrest raised concerns on social media as some accused the previous government of misusing state funds and properties.
After his arrest, the former MD old video surfaced online as he claimed he was appointed at GIHOC MD by a mistake.
According to him, institutions such as a COCOBOD, TOR and others are the best to lead them.
