Ghanaian songwriter and musician Kofi Kinaata has spoken about how he acquires funds to launch his annual concert, Made in Taadi.
He proclaimed that in spite of running at a loss, his motivation for organizing the show has nothing to do with making money, but rather to give back to the people of Takoradi in an interview on Starr FM.
“I really spend a lot, and I think not many people know what goes into a big show like this, but my motive is not to make money from the show, but to give back to the people of Takoradi since that’s where I was born and bred.”
The Susuka hitmaker made it known that his focus is really based on the happiness of his people.
“Sometimes, your focus is on the happiness of people and the kind of vibe entertainment brings to Takoradi, so the focus is not on the cost. It’s after the event that the realization of a loss is made,” he explained.
Kinaata disclosed that even though there is sponsorship, it only covers a fraction of the total cost.
“Sponsorships come, but you know how event planning goes—we end up covering 80%, and the sponsors only handle about 20%,” he said.
Kinaata has also expressed hope for future government or regional sponsors, stating that the scale and impact of the event have outgrown what he alone can handle.
“I would be very glad to get help from anyone, whether nationwide or regional, because the show is now huge, and sometimes covering all expenses becomes difficult for me alone.”
