The Unit Committee Chairman for the Nii Boi Electoral Area, Mr. James Attikpo, has appealed to women in the area to take advantage of the ongoing breast cancer screening exercise to safeguard their health and well-being.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Attikpo explained that the initiative, dubbed “Obaanaa Breast Cancer Awareness and Health Screening,” was introduced by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei North Constituency, Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, to promote early detection and improve women’s health outcomes.
He noted that the exercise, organized in collaboration with Hon. Nii Otuo, is not limited to residents of Okaikwei North but is open to all Ghanaian women. The initiative aims to reach about 3,000 women across communities, with volunteers currently conducting door-to-door sensitization to encourage participation.
Mr. Attikpo disclosed that although the program commenced in January, the MP has sustained it beyond October, globally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month as part of her broader commitment to enhancing access to quality health care for her constituents.
He commended Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni for her continuous efforts in supporting community development, citing her earlier interventions such as Ghana Card registration and National Health Insurance renewals.
“This screening is very necessary and important. We urge all women to take part because prevention and early detection can save lives.” He said
Meanwhile, the Women’s Executive for the Lapaz Market, Madam Roberta Nyamekye, expressed her appreciation for the MP’s initiative, describing it as life-changing.
She said the free health screening has helped many market women to check their health status, including blood pressure and breast examination.
“There’s nothing better than having an MP who prioritizes the health of her people. I checked my blood pressure today, and I’m happy it’s normal.”
Madam Nyamekye also encouraged her fellow market women to participate in large numbers, emphasizing that good health is vital to sustaining their livelihoods.
She extended gratitude to Hon. Theresa Lardi Awuni, Chairman Tuga, community executives, and the medical professionals who have dedicated their time and expertise to make the program a success.
