“NPP is not our competitor in Ablekuma North rerun” – Mustapha Gbande

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has dismissed the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) as a non-factor in the upcoming parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency, accusing the party of posturing and deception.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story on Wednesday, July 9, Mr. Gbande argued that the NPP’s public posture is misleading and intended to confuse voters.

His remarks come in response to the NPP’s formal announcement that it will not take part in the rerun, describing the Electoral Commission’s decision as “illegal” and “in contempt of court.” The party claims that the process violates an active court order and insists that it is not a legitimate election.

But Mr. Gbande insists that the NPP’s decision is a smokescreen meant to avoid an embarrassing defeat.

“The NPP is not our competitor in this election. They are participants and have chosen to paint the picture that they’ve withdrawn. But they are still on the ballot, and that speaks volumes,

“The NPP knows very well they have lost credibility in Ablekuma North. For eight years, they neglected the people, even though this is one of their strongholds. While President Akufo-Addo was sending asphalt roads and internet to his hometown in Kyebi, he ignored this constituency completely.” he said.

He further argued that the NPP’s internal disunity and declining public trust have left it unfit to contest any serious election.

Mustapha Gbande also criticized the former Akufo-Addo administration, describing its eight-year tenure as a ‘national fraud.

“They are dismantled, divided, and disorganised. Even when they speak publicly, they lose votes because Ghanaians no longer see them as credible,” he said, adding, “They know their candidate cannot win this election. If they could, they would have replaced the candidate by now.

“What President Akufo-Addo and his team did to this country cannot be forgotten in just a few months. The harm is still fresh in the minds of Ghanaians.” He said
