Nwoase Traditional Leaders caution youth against drug abuse and teenage pregnancy

The Secretary to Odeneho Nana Kofi Drobo, Mr. Felix Atta Kwabena, has cautioned the youth in the Bono Region and Ghana at large, urging them to steer clear of illicit drugs and hard alcoholic drinks, warning that such habits threaten their health, future, and the well-being of society.

Speaking on behalf of the Nwoase Traditional Authority, Mr. Felix Atta Kwabena expressed concern about the rising trend of substance abuse among the youth across the country. According to him, the use of illicit drugs deprives the youth of a brighter future and endangers the country.

He described the youth as the foundation of the country’s future, explaining that if immediate measures are not put in place to curb drug abuse, the consequences could be dire.

“Illicit drug use is now becoming widespread in the country. On behalf of Odeneho Nana Kofi Drobo, I want to urge the youth to desist from the use of illicit drugs and instead protect their lives. The more you consume these substances, the more you weaken your immune system and become prone to diseases.

“The youth are our future, and if we do not put in place measures to curb this canker, we risk losing that future.”

Addressing another pressing concern, Mr. Atta Kwabena turned his attention to the alarming rate of teenage pregnancy in the Bono Region. He urged parents to prioritize educating their daughters about teenage pregnancy and the dangers associated with it.

“To our young ladies, not long ago, we received a report that the Bono Region recorded a total of 14,000 cases of teenage pregnancy, which is very alarming. I urge parents to sit down with their daughters and educate them about the dangers of teenage pregnancy to help prevent such cases from occurring.” He said.

The Sanaahene of Nwoase, Nana Kofi Afena, also reiterated that abortion is not only illegal under Ghanaian law but is also considered a serious taboo in the area. He added that the use of marijuana, hard liquor such as apeteshi, and other harmful substances is strictly frowned upon.

“Aside from the fact that abortion is against the laws of Ghana, it is also considered a taboo in Nwoase. Marijuana, hard alcoholic drinks, and other illicit drugs are not tolerated in this community.

“I can tell you for a fact that if you go around and ask the youth in this community about ‘apeteshi’ and other illicit substances, they will tell you such things are prohibited and that they do not indulge in them.”
