Seven new Supreme Court Justices to be sworn in today

Seven newly appointed Justices of the Supreme Court are set to be officially sworn into office today, Thursday, July 3, at a ceremony to be held at the Jubilee House.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, will lead the swearing-in, administering the oath of office to the new Justices, who were approved by Parliament and vetted earlier this year, in line with Article 144 of the 1992 Constitution.

The appointees, many of whom are distinguished judges elevated from the Court of Appeal, are expected to strengthen the Supreme Court’s capacity at a time when it is facing an increasing volume of cases—particularly those involving constitutional interpretation, electoral disputes, and complex civil and criminal appeals.

The newly confirmed Justices are:

  1. Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei

  2. Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh

  3. Justice Senyo Dzamefe

  4. Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo

  5. Justice Philip Bright Mensah

  6. Justice Janapare Bartels-Kodwo

  7. Justice Hafisata Amaleboba

Their induction is expected to contribute significantly to the delivery of justice and the effective functioning of the country’s highest court.
