Techiman: Krobo Chief launches ‘Sumfuo Dwumadie’ to support traders and youth

The Techiman Krobohene and Kyidomhene of the Techiman Traditional Area, Oyeadeeye Asah Akompanin II, has unveiled plans to support traders, especially the youth in his community and the wider Techiman area through a new initiative dubbed “Sumfuo Dwumadie”

In an interview with the media, Oyeadeeye Asah Akompanin II said the project, whose name translates as “helping others to progress in society,” is aimed at elevating residents by providing financial and social support.

The Techiman Krobohene explained that although he has for several years supported brilliant but needy students to further their education in tertiary institutions,a commitment he will continuem, this new programme specifically targets traders and the youth to boost their businesses.

“This year, my aim is to initiate a new project called “Sumfua Dwumadie,” which means “helping others to progress in society.” I have never heard of anyone seeking help to do bad things; we mostly hear people asking for help when they are doing the right thing. I am ready to lend a helping hand to elevate my people.

“My primary vision this year is to support the people of Krobo, especially traders and the youth. In the area of education, I have been assisting brilliant but needy students to further their education in tertiary institutions for several years, and I will continue to do so this year.” He disclosed.

He revealed that although a market centre has been built for the people of Krobo by their Member of Parliament, patronage remains low. As part of the initiative, he has therefore provided GH¢50,000.00 as seed money to support traders at the market to expand and improve their businesses.

Oyeadeeye Asah Akompanin II further explained that repayment will not be compulsory; however, those who repay the funds will receive larger amounts next year, while those who fail to repay will be blacklisted from the project. He expressed optimism that by next year a total of GH¢100,000.00 will be allocated to the project.

“However, the “Sumfuo Dwumadie”” initiative is a new programme designed to help traders, especially the youth, to boost their businesses. Our Member of Parliament has built a market centre for the people of Krobo, but patronage at the market appears to be low. Therefore, I have decided to provide seed money to support traders at the market. To begin with, I have procured GH¢50,000.00 to help them boost their businesses.

”Although repayment will not be forced, those who repay the money will be given a larger amount next year, while those who fail to repay will be blacklisted from the project. We are hopeful that next year, a total of GH¢100,000.00 will be allocated to the project.”

The Krobohene noted that the “Sumfuo Dwumadie” (Helping Others Project) forms part of his broader vision for 2025 to empower youth, support local businesses and drive community development in Krobo and beyond.
