Techiman South Education Director hails smooth, malpractice-free BECE

The Techiman South Municipal Education Director, Pastor Isaac Amankwa, has commended stakeholders for ensuring a successful and incident-free 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality.

Speaking to the media after the conclusion of the nationwide exams, he revealed that Techiman, which had previously been marked as a hotspot for examination malpractice, recorded no major incidents this year thanks to deliberate preventive measures put in place by the Municipal Education Directorate.

According to him, his office engaged invigilators, supervisors, and other key education stakeholders to evaluate the situation and develop strategies to ensure a credible and peaceful examination process.

“Prior to the commencement of the BECE, Bono East  and Techiman in particular  was identified as one of the hotspots for examination malpractice. In response, I liaised with my management team to implement measures aimed at redeeming our image in this year’s BECE.

“We engaged invigilators, supervisors, and other key stakeholders to assess the situation and strategize on how best to conduct the examination without any incidents of malpractice.

“All education officers in the municipality were deployed to the 15 BECE centres within Techiman to supervise the exams and help create an environment free from malpractice.” He stated.

The Techiman South Municipal Education Director explained that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) external supervisors who visited the centres praised the municipality for its outstanding performance in organizing the exams. However, he admitted that although the examination was largely successful, it was not entirely without challenges.

“I must put on record that the WAEC external officers who came to supervise the exams in Techiman commended us for the excellent work done. As a result, the examination was conducted smoothly and without incident.”

“However, it was not 100% as we had expected. There were a few minor issues that we identified, and moving forward, we will work on addressing and improving those areas.” He said.

Pastor Isaac Amankwa expressed optimism about this year’s candidates, stating that he expects improved results in the BECE for the municipality.

He also used the opportunity to call on parents to take an active role in the school selection process.

“Our expectation is to see better results in this year’s BECE in the Techiman South Municipality. We are confident that the candidates were well-prepared and wrote the exams to the best of their abilities.

“We also want to emphasize that school selection should be a shared responsibility between parents and their wards. Parents should not leave this important decision solely to the students. Our office is always open, and we encourage any parent who needs guidance on school selection to visit us without hesitation.” He stated.
