Media personality Nana Romeo has stated that the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) should have no association with politics.
He suggested, “I would plead that the position of IGP should not be a political appointment. If a government appoints an IGP, he is limited in taking actions for fear of being sacked by the sitting government.”
Nana Romeo shared his opinion that because the role of the IGP is politically motivated, those who attain the position are unable to work effectively without fear of being dismissed by the current government.
He further concluded that anyone who occupies the position should rather be selected through an internal vote within the police service.
