The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana has expressed their displeasure over delay in their allowances.
According to them, life has become unbearable after the government refused to pay them their allowances.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, 14th May, 2025 the national president of Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana, Ebenezer Boateng they are giving the government one-week ultimatum to release their unpaid allowances.
He said some of the members are only surviving through sports betting and borrowing.
“A hungry man can do anything to a patient so please, we are going through a lot. We have been borrowing, sports betting among other things. About two years ago, a colleague rotation nurse had to hang himself, may his soul rest in peace, because he was owning a lot of people and he had no means to pay them. So please, life has been very unbearable.” He said.
He stressed that government failure to pay them their allowances prevented them from exercising their basic responsibilities such as utility bills and others.
The association therefore called on Ghanaians to come to their aid and advocate for them.
Adding that they are part of Ghanaians so President Mahama and the NDC government should extend the resetting to them.
“Now some of us when we see our landlords and land ladies, we have to hide because they are on us for utility bills, we have to keep lying to them and it is spoiling our integrity. So please we are telling Ghanaians, come in, advocate for us, put yourself in our shoes, working for even two months without an allowance, without your salary, how will you survive? And we go through this for a whole one year, this is uncalled for and this has to change. If you are resetting Ghana, then you have to reset this one as well.” Ebenezer Boateng added.
