Ghanaian musician Moliy has opened up about the struggles she’s faced in promoting her music, revealing that despite several efforts, she had to take matters into her own hands.
She shared that she had countless meetings with distribution companies that all promised results but failed to deliver.
“I had several meetings with distribution companies just to get my song out there, but it was just promise after promise, and nothing really happened,” she said in an interview with US-based media outlet Revolt TV.
Moliy disclosed that she didn’t release a single song throughout 2024 because she and her manager were stuck trying to secure a proper distribution deal.
“When I tell you my manager and I went on song hibernation the whole of 2024, you won’t believe it. Oh yeah, I didn’t release a song that whole year just because we were stuck and needed a distribution company to help promote our songs.”
According to her, things became stagnant until her manager suggested they take a different approach promoting the music themselves online.
“My manager then told me to stop searching so we could take matters into our own hands by promoting my songs online, and it worked.”
Moliy added that she focused on posting content she could manage herself without needing professional help.
She emphasized that being recognized as an independent artist in Ghana requires spending a lot of money on media coverage and influencer promotion.
“I realized at a point that instead of making music, I was going around chasing distribution deals. That led to almost a whole year of not releasing music. As I said earlier, my manager helped me promote the songs online, and look at how Shake It to the Max has stormed the world.”
