Ghanaian dancehall icon, Charles Nii Armah Mensah widely known as Shatta Wale has chided Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation Sam George over his recent comments on online video platform TikTok.
Sam George revealed that the Ministry is talking with TikTok to moderate some of the content as many of the contents on TikTok are against Ghanaian culture values.
Adding that the Cybersecurity Authority is mandated to check contents and close down accounts that go against Ghanaian culture and norms.
But Shatta Wale believes the Minister lacks understanding regarding the impact of TikTok on the livelihoods of numerous individuals who have benefitted dearly and survived with the tiktok app.
According to him, the Ministry must engage with experts and professionals in the industry to provide insight into the functionality of these platforms.
“This is the reason why individuals in your position should engage with professionals like us from the technology sector to provide insight into the functionality of these platforms. Your statements suggest a lack of understanding regarding the impact of TikTok on the livelihoods of numerous individuals who have benefitted dearly and survived with the tiktok app.” Shatta Wale stated.
He said people think TikTok is solely for entertainment only but it goes beyond that.
“Learning and entertainment are intertwined, but without proper comprehension, one might assume that TikTok’s purpose is solely for entertainment based on one’s personalized feed. We need to check your phone with things you have chosen to watch and see on your #fyp then you will understand what am saying.” The On God hitmaker stated.
According to him, Ghana is far behind the knowledge and impact on technology so they must engage with experts for more education.
“We are part of a new generation that relies heavily on technology, unlike the traditional methods of textbooks and pens.If you need more understanding invite me and let me teach how this social media platforms work. Cheers.” Shatta Wale posted on Facebook.
