Techiman South NDC Executives calls on President Mahama to appoint MCE from constituency ranks

The Techiman South National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives have called on President John Dramani Mahama to select the next Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) from within the ranks of the constituency executives.

According to them, this move is crucial in fostering unity and ensuring that all members, including longtime settlers, feel welcome and valued within the party.

Addressing the media, Abubakar Sadick Akumfi Ameyaw, popularly known as Dwomor Mugabe, stated that the party’s Constituency Secretary, Mr. Edward Ofosu Nsowah, or Dr. Christopher Bayere, the Techiman South NDC Parliamentary Candidate, should be given the position to maintain stability within the party and promote the development of the Techiman Municipality

“President John Dramani Mahama and our National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, during the campaign, promised us that if the party comes to power, they will select the MCE from within the constituency executives.

“We trust that our leaders always honor their promises, and we kindly urge them to fulfill this commitment. It is the will of the grassroots that the MCE be selected from within the ranks of the constituency executives. During the campaign, we relayed this promise from our National Executives to our supporters. Fortunately, among the final shortlisted candidates from Techiman South, our Constituency Secretary, Mr. Edward Ofosu Nsowah, was included, so we do not understand the delay in the appointment.” He disclosed.

Dwomor Mugabe also raised concerns over the outcome of the 2024 general elections, where they insist that their parliamentary candidate, Dr. Christopher Bayere, was the rightful winner but was not declared as such. They urged the party’s national leadership to ensure fairness and justice by addressing the issue conclusively.

“We are also aware that some individuals are against our Parliamentary Candidate, Dr. Christopher Bayere, and have been campaigning against him simply because he is a settler. However, we, the party faithful, are convinced beyond doubt that Christopher Bayere won the elections but was not declared the winner. We expect our National Executives to address this issue to its logical conclusion, but that has not yet been done.” He said

Abubakar Sadick Akumfi Ameyaw further disclosed that the Techiman South NDC executives, along with all 32 electoral area coordinators and 282 polling station executives, are strongly demanding that the MCE position be given to either Dr. Christopher Bayere or Mr. Edward Ofosu Nsowah to uphold the party’s credibility and maintain unity.

“We have observed that a few individuals are opposing both our Constituency Secretary and Dr. Christopher Bayere from being considered for the MCE position, which goes against the will of party members in the constituency.

“We, the Techiman South NDC faithfuls, including all 32 electoral area coordinators and the 282 polling station executives, strongly demand that either Dr. Christopher Bayere or Mr. Edward Ofosu Nsowah be named as the MCE for Techiman South.” Abubakar Sadick Akumfi Ameyaw, said

Meanwhile, the Zongo Caucus of the NDC in Techiman South has also expressed disappointment over what they perceive as a lack of recognition within the party, particularly regarding the selection of the MCE.

Sa-Had, the Zongo Caucus Coordinator of the party, addressed the media, stating:

“We, the Zongo Caucus, have the feeling and suspicion that the NDC party in Techiman does not value us, especially regarding the selection of the MCE. We have heard that some individuals oppose the appointment of either our Constituency Secretary or Dr. Christopher Bayere simply because they are settlers.

“We want to make it clear to our national executives, through our regional executives, that if either Dr. Christopher Bayere or Mr. Edward Ofosu Nsowah is not named as the MCE, our suspicions will be confirmed, and we will be compelled to take the necessary actions accordingly.”

They warned that any deviation from this demand would not only create discontent within the party but could also impact the party’s fortunes in the region.
